Malmö is a small-medium size city in Sweden and is known as a hub for artivism with a focus on feminist cartooning. Over the course of a creative workshop held in September 2024 at
Equal health | Malmö University led by
Margareta Rämgård | Malmö University and health promotor Iftikhar Ali aided by translators, participants from a local women’s health group, who work with Community Based Participatory Research, gathered with the project researchers, together with a local feminist cartoonist,
Karolina Bång, to respond to several broad themes that might provide fruitful ways into sharing experiences of menopause. These centred on bodily changes & medicalisation; representations and the ‘positives’ of menopause; and emotions, relationships & work. Each of these themes intended to act as elicitations for the women’s original cartoon art exploring menopause, and to be considered alongside additional themes arising inductively from these encounters.
