MENOPAUSE ARTIVISM IN THE UK, SWEDEN AND INDIA

THE PROJECT

In recent years the topic of menopause in the UK has gone from being something largely buried and ‘shameful’ in society, to being the focus of huge public attention across media, politics, medicine, retail, and more. This ‘menopause revolution’, as it has been called, represents a unique opportunity: a decisive turning point for either extending or delimiting how menopause is popularly envisioned, approached and experienced.

 ARTIVISM

MAUSI_Net’s innovation lies in both the geographical and disciplinary breadth of its participants, as well as the project’s innovative aims and methodologies, which extend across national and socio-cultural boundaries, and utilise artivism, to produce a range of accessible and imaginative outputs and create a new community of menopause scholars.

EVENTS

MAUSI Net endeavours to organise two international workshops and one final event.

The workshops will be sites where networks are forged, and necessary data is co-created. Caretta and Vacchelli (2015) discuss the workshop as a site for qualitative data collection which is poorly understood within traditional qualitative research methodologies. The outputs of each workshop will systematically inform the next workshop and final event by integrating its outputs in the next stage (i.e. the comic strips and bodymaps) as elicitation of further activities eventually converging in the final event and exhibition in London.
